BLUETOOTH, BE AWARE IN UTILIZING IT

Bluetooth is a technology that brings many benefits in the telecommunications industries. We can use Bluetooth for various purposes, especially for transferring data. However, Bluetooth can be used for crimes against other users.

Weaknesses in Bluetooth emerged since 2003, when Adam Lauri, a researcher at A.Digital Ltd., found serious gaps in the function of authentication and data transfer mechanisms on devices that support Bluetooth. Through these gaps, crackers can harm their victims from a Bluetooth device, such as stealing the contents of the phonebook, calendar, mobile IMEI number, copy the contents of memory, or control the device that supports Bluetooth.

Imagine if all of a sudden, your private and secret files that you saved in HP, PDA, or laptop suddenly be accessible to others, of course your privacy will be threatened. This is a deficiency that should you consider when utilizing the Bluetooth feature on your gadget.

However, you do not need to worry because Bluetooth devices can only access other Bluetooth devices within its range. The maximum distance that can be achieved by normal Bluetooth, such as in mobile phones or PDAs, generally is 10 meters, and 100 meters on notebook.

To prevent crime through Bluetooth, avoid using Bluetooth excessively. Do not accept a Bluetooth-pairing request that you do not recognize well. Of course, try to turn off this feature in public places.
